Heads up, Spidey fans, this week is looking good for the Wall-Crawler. While Warner Bros.' Man of Steel was crushing it at the box office last weekend, rival studio Sony had some big news of its own. On 6-17-13, Deadline reported that Sony had nailed down opening dates for 2 additional installments in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.

It's clear that all the studios are taking a long-term, strategic approach with all of their superhero properties. Marvel announced 2 dates for Phase 3 of its movie universe, and Warner Bros. has already greenlit a Man of Steel sequel in 2014 and a Justice League film in 2015. For fans, that means were gonna have lots to talk about and speculate on in the next few years.

  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - May 2, 2014
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 3 - June 10, 2016
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 4 - May 4, 2018
Here's the official announcement from Sony -

"CULVER CITY, Calif., June 17, 2013 – With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The executive producers are E. Bennett Walsh, Stan Lee, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

The Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year."

Is Felicity Jones Black Cat?

Now for that other big Spidey story that broke this week. We've known for some time that Felicity Jones had a role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but so far Sony hasn't announced her character's name. Well, it might not be a secret any longer. Felicity was interviewed by recently, and she might've accidentally revealed who she's playing.

During the interview, Felicity was asked if she was excited for fans to see her as Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat. Felicity was obviously surprised by the question and her response has lead some to believe she is in fact Black Cat.

  1. i tried to watch the first film twice... it's a visual beast, but there is something i just don't like. my wife loved it, she is looking forward to it... maybe it will be like sherlock holmes 2. i found the second far better than the first. maybe cause the characters were established.

    1. Yep I know some people weren't crazy about the reboot. I thought they did a great job updating Spidey.
