Hugo Weaving Talks Red Skull and Captain America: Civil War

red skull,hugo weaving
Disney/Marvel
Wondering if the villainous Red Skull will make a return in Marvel's 'Captain America: Civil War'? Well, the actor who portrayed the Big Bad in 2011's 'Captain America: The First Avenger' isn't too sure himself.

In an interview posted yesterday (11-29-14), Hugo Weaving admitted that he hasn't talked to Marvel about reprising his role as Red Skull in the Marvel movie, which is set for a May 6, 2016 release. There's speculation online that Daniel Bruhe (who was added to the cast of CA:CW last week) will take Weaving's place, but so far we haven't had any confirmation of that.

I really liked Weaving's performance in the first Cap film, and I hope he's back for CA:CW. However, it should be noted that Weaving has said in the past that he didn't want to play Red Skull again.

Christian Bale Envied Ben Affleck Playing Batman

christian bale
Warner Bros.
A report surfaced earlier this week about Christian Bale's thoughts on playing Batman again. In a chat with Empire, Bale admitted he had second thoughts about hanging up the cape and cowl after 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

In the interview, Bale talks about his reaction to seeing Ben Affleck announced as the new Batman. Check out the actor's candid remarks below.

###

“I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, ‘Oh go on… Let’s do another.’ So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour.

“But I’m 40,” he said. “The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman…I think I should have gotten over it by now. I haven’t spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid anything that I did.”

###

When news surfaced that Warner Bros. was making 'Batman v Superman' I was pretty sure Bale would return as the Dark Knight one more time. However, I think Affleck was a smart choice to take up the role. Do you wish Bale had signed on for the superhero team-up or was it a wise decision to let someone else have a chance at Batman?

Here's The Official Synopsis of The Fantastic Four Movie Reboot

fantastic four
Marvel Comics
There's been very little info surfacing online about the reboot of 'The Fantastic Four' franchise, but at least we now have an official synopsis. Before you check out the description below, here's a quick recap of what we know about the movie so far.

  • The director and co-writer is Josh Trank, who brought us the low-budget (and well-received) superhero movie 'Chronicle' (2012).
  • The movie will completely change the original comic book origin of the team, as created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This new version will have the characters gaining superpowers by traveling to an alternate universe - not by cosmic rays, as in the Lee/Kirby tale.
  • The cast features several rising Hollywood stars - Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm, and Toby Kebbell as Victor Doomashev.
  • The Fantastic Four opens August 7, 2015.
Synopsis -

###

The Fantastic Four, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. (C) Fox" - via rottentomatoes.com

###

I'm sure longtime fans of the Marvel Comics version of The Fantastic Four will complain about the changes Fox is making in this reboot. However, I don't think a straight retelling of the 1960s, Lee/Kirby story would work with modern audiences. I'm a little worried that Fox hasn't revealed any footage from the movie yet, but I'm hoping for the best when this reboot drops next summer.

What do you think about the synopsis?

Bivolo causes people to lose control of their emotions and has been using that skill to rob banks. Unfortunately, the superhero partnership doesn’t go as smoothly as Barry expected. When Oliver tells Barry he still has a lot to learn, Barry sets out to prove him wrong by attempting to stop Bivolo alone. However, when Bivolo infects Barry and sets him on a rage rampage, everyone is in danger, and the only one who can stop him is the Arrow. Meanwhile, Iris is furious when Eddie tries to get a task force to stop The Flash, Joe and Dr. Wells agree the Arrow is a bad influence on Barry, and Caitlin and Cisco deal with a new team in S.T.A.R. Gotham Showrunner Drops Details On New Characters

The executive producer of 'Gotham' - Bruno Heller - chatted with Entertainment Weekly about several characters who might be appearing on the series. Heller mentioned Batman's eventual sidekick, Robin, as well as the villainous Harley Quinn.

“We’re going to do a prenatal origin story for Robin down the line,” Heller tells EW. Since Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is still a young teenager on the series, his youthful eventual partner Robin hasn’t even been born yet. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a way to tell a story that touches on his character.

“There are no MRIs involved,” Heller assures. “There’s an episode coming up where we learn how Robin’s parents got together.” - via EW

Marvel Comics
We can expect big changes in the X-Men movie universe when the next installment of the mutant saga 'X-Men: Apocalypse' arrives in 2016. Several cast changes are in store - with younger actors taking on the roles of characters that appeared in the original trilogy.

Case in point - the roles of Jean Grey/Phoenix and Scott Summers/Cyclops will be re-cast, although we don't know for sure how big a part they'll play in 'Apocalypse'.

A report surfaced earlier today (11-18-14) via thewrap.com that claims Fox is looking at three actors and actresses for the roles of Jean and Scott.

Who will be the new Jean Grey and Scott Summers?

If the report is accurate, two of the names below might join James McAvoy, Micheal Fassbender, and company when 'X-Men: Apocalypse' opens May 27, 2016.

"...Elle Fanning (Maleficent, Chloe Grace Moretz (If I Stay) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) are all being looked at for Jean while Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar), Ben Hardy (“EastEnders”) and Charlie Rowe (“Red Band Society”) are all up for the Scott role." - comingsoon.net

Casting News: Bridget Regan Joins Marvel's Agent Carter

Just a quick note about a casting announcement from Marvel that you might've missed.

Earlier this week, we learned the upcoming action drama 'Marvel's Agent Carter' filled the role of another important character. It looks like Bridget Regan will share the screen with star Hayley Atwell in the ABC network show.

Here's how Marvel's Marc Strom described Regan's character -

"Regan ("White Collar," "John Wick," "Jane the Virgin") will move in next door to Peggy as Dottie, a small-town girl from Iowa who’ll have a huge impact on the life of Agent Carter.“ - Marc Strom

Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, added this about the actress -

"Bridget Regan brings the nuance and complexity of Dottie to life in a way that leaves no doubt as to her importance to Peggy." - Jeph Loeb

Watch The (Totally Fake) Trailer For Birdman Returns

In the new movie 'Birdman' Michael Keaton plays an actor whose most famous role was the superhero of the title.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has created a fictional (but very convincing) trailer for a movie that Keaton's character, Riggan Thompson, mentions in 'Birdman'. The trailer is for the sequel to Thompson's greatest success - appropriately titled 'Birdman Returns'.

Is Jared Leto The New Joker?

A new report surfaced this afternoon (11-7-14) that claims Warner Bros. wants Jared Leto for the role of The Joker. According to the (alleged) inside source, the studio is in talks with the Oscar-winning actor to play Batman's arch-enemy in the upcoming 'Suicide Squad' movie.

As of this evening, neither Warner Bros. or Leto has responded to the report.

I have a feeling this story has some truth behind it - Leto as The Joker just seems like a great match.

Whaddya think?

Gotham Ratings Improve For Episode 7

The Fox drama 'Gotham' has garnered mixed reviews in its first season, and the ratings have been less than stellar, as well.

However, the ratings did improve for the 11-3-14 episode - with a 9 percent increase in viewers. 'Gotham' nabbed the second spot in the 8 pm hour, with 6.5 million tuning in.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed in the show so far, but I'm giving it a chance to get its legs.

What's your opinion of 'Gotham'?

Gotham TV Series Adds Another Future Batman Villain

It looks like another iconic Batman villain will emerge in Gotham City this fall. However, this baddie will be in the form of a child - the child who grows up to be Scarecrow.

The TV site, Zap2It, explains how the boy gets the Scarecrow name.

“In fact, it’s something that will be passed on to him from his father, which will create an eventual enemy for Batman while still having a possible adversary for Jim Gordon.”

No word yet about who'll play the role of Scarecrow or when he'll first show up.

Loki And Heimdall Will Appear In Avengers: Age of Ultron

Marvel's been telling us that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) would NOT appear in any Marvel movies in the near future. Well, it looks like that isn't the case - if we believe what Idris Elba said over the weekend.

Elba - the actor who plays Heimdall in the Thor movies - let it slip that he and Hiddleston will make a brief appearance in next summer's 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'.

The speculation online points to Loki and Heimdall being part of a vision that the Scarlet Witch gives to one of the Avengers.

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' opens May 1, 2015.

Mark Ruffalo Talks Hulk, Bruce Banner, Anger Management

Marvel has posted a new interview with Mark Ruffalo, and if you're looking forward to next summer's 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' I think you'll dig it.

The interview was conducted this summer on the 'Age of Ultron' set, but it landed online 10-30-14.

Ruffalo reveals quite a bit about his character, Bruce Banner, and how he's coming to terms with being an Avenger.

It sounds like Ruffalo and writer/director Joss Whedon have put a huge amount of thought into Banner's mindset for the upcoming movie.

Here's a snippet from the interview -

"I think he’s trying to become a part of the group more," Ruffalo explains. "I don’t think he’s ever felt like part of a family, or part of anything. He’s always sort of been this outsider, or on the run, or, you know, trying to shun humanity. [laughs]"

Ruffalo continues, "But now I feel like he has the idea that maybe he is a part of something and feels more comfortable. He has a fantasy that he could actually be a part of something. I still think it’s a struggle for him and I never think that he quite has it under control. But I think in this version, he’s as close to having a normal life as he possibly could, which might include…some romance. Is that ever possible for Banner is really the question." - Mark Ruffalo
