Patrick Wilson Reportedly To Join Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Deadline posted an unconfirmed report yesterday saying Patrick Wilson will sign on to Marvel's 2015 superhero saga - 'Ant-Man'. The site didn't offer any other details, including who Wilson might be playing. Of course, the internet was awash in theories about the mystery role shortly after the news broke - some were crazy, but one actually made sense.

A lot of people (including yours truly) think Wilson will play a younger version of Hank Pym, the creator of the size-altering Ant-Man tech. We already know Michael Douglas has been cast in the role of Pym, but that doesn't rule out Wilson also playing the brilliant inventor.

As Screenrant's Rob Keyes pointed out (see link below), it's possible we'll see a younger version of Pym in 'Ant-Man'. The theory goes - part of the movie will show Pym inventing the Ant-Man tech in the 1960s and then the timeframe would shift to the present day. The only other part in the movie that's confirmed is Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd). Michael Pena and Evangeline Lilly are also reported to be close to signing on to 'Ant-Man', as well.

Oddly enough, it's that represents the longest-in-development project from Marvel Studios to date, and since the beginning, Edgar Wright has been set to write and direct. Over the years, beginning long before Iron Man even hit theaters in 2008, there have been casting rumors and fan wishlists for who should play the littlest Avenger who Wright says can "kick your ass one inch at a time."

'Ant-Man' opens on July 17, 2015.

Behind-The-Scenes Look At Marvel Studios Coming In March

marvel studios assembling a universe
Great news for superhero movie fans surfaced today! A "docu-special" is coming soon that'll show how the world's greatest fictional cinematic universe came to be.

Disney/Marvel announced this morning that ABC TV will air a one hour special on March 18 - 'Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe'.

The show will have sneak peeks at three upcoming Marvel movies - 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (April 4), 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (August 1), and 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (May 1, 2015).

The special will also offer preview footage from 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', but today's announcement didn't go into specifics as to what we'll see. I'm guessing the 'AoS' portion of the show will drop hints about what (and who) we might see in Season 2.

Here's part of Marvel's press release about the show -

"Join stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, celebrity fans, filmmakers and pop culture icons for a world premiere primetime event, "Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe," on Tuesday, March 18 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

In this exclusive primetime documentary special, audiences will be taken further into the Marvel Cinematic Universe than ever before, offering viewers a front row seat to the inception of Marvel Studios, the record-breaking films, the cultural phenomenon, and further expansion of the universe by Marvel Television."

Major Updates On 'Daredevil' Marvel / Netflix Series

marvel studios, logoi
On Wednesday (2-26-14) we got major news about the Marvel / Netflix partnership that'll bring four Marvel superheroes to the streaming video service. The head honchos from Disney, Marvel, and Netflix made a joint announcement about the start of filming on the 'Daredevil' Netflix Originals series.

The press release told us where all of the series will be filmed.

"Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, The Walt Disney Company, Marvel and Netflix Inc. today announced that Marvel's landmark live-action television series, which will bring Marvel's "flawed heroes of Hell's Kitchen" characters to Netflix, the world's leading Internet TV network, will principally film in New York State." - Disney/Marvel

We also learned when the first of the Netflix series - 'Daredevil' - would begin filming.

"Filming is set to begin in the Summer 2014 and will create at least three thousand jobs in New York State including up to 400 full time jobs. The project will include nearly 60 one-hour episodes focused on the 4 Defenders characters: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist." - Disney/Marvel

The press release didn't offer a timeline for the roll-out of the 'Daredevil' series, but I think it's a safe bet we'll see the first episode in February or March of 2015.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - New Poster Features Falcon

Captain America The Winter Soldier,Falcon,poster
Anthony Mackie strikes a heroic pose as Falcon, on the latest character poster for Marvel's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'. I'm interested to see how Mackie's Sam Wilson / Falcon figures into the plot of 'CA:TWS'. I've always liked the comic book Falcon, so I hope they give him a substantial part in the story.

New Poster And Info For Marvel's Short Film 'All Hail the King'

Disney/Marvel - via Entertainment Weekly
The home video edition of 'Thor: The Dark World' went on sale today (2-25-14), and included on the Blu-ray version is a cool "extra". Sir Ben Kingsley reprises his role of Trevor Slattery (from 'Iron Man 3') in the short film - 'Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King'.

Marvel unveiled the official poster (above) via EW, and had a special screening of the short last night in Los Angeles. I thought Kingsley was hilarious and brilliant in 'Iron Man 3' and I'm really looking forward to seeing 'All Hail the King'.

Here's a description of the short film, courtesy of Geek Tyrant -

"A documentarian played by Scoot McNairy (best known for Argo and In Search of a Midnight Kiss) narrates his quest to understand the history of the man who, in Iron Man 3, captivated the world’s attention as a fearsome terrorist, who amalgamated the forms of various menacing figures from history.

The fact that this man turned out to be (SPOILER ALERT) kind of a huge fraud is just another fascinating wrinkle in The Mandarin’s storied past.

Those who’ve already seen Iron Man 3 know that this terrifying figure was actually a clueless British actor who was simply desperate for work — and too dim to realize what he was getting into.

Spared an agonizing (albeit hilarious) demise in the feature film, Kingsley’s brain-addled Trevor Slattery survives to unleash more chaos in this short film."

If you want some behind-the-scenes info on this latest short from Marvel, check out the video below. In the video, 'Iron Man 3' writer (and the writer/director of 'All Hail the King') Drew Pearce talks about how the short has implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what it was like working with Ben Kingsley.

Marvel released two clips from 'All Hail the King' - watch Clip 1 and Clip 2.
