'Batman Vs. Superman' Has Found Its Lex Luthor

Jesse Eisneberg - Sony Pictures / Lex Luthor - DC Comics
'Batman Vs. Superman' Casts Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor

Move over, Batfleck! Lexberg is here! Warner Bros. announced today (1-31-14) that Jesse Eisenberg - star of 2010's 'The Social Network' will play Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor in the 'Man of Steel' sequel.

Director Zack Snyder explained why he thought Eisenberg is the right actor to portray Luthor -

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.” - Zack Snyder

In the official press release, the studio also announced that Oscar-winner, Jeremy Irons, will portray Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth. The first live-action team-up of Batman and Superman is targeted for a May 6, 2016 opening.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Super Bowl trailer is here! Okay, just the first 40 seconds, but it's still enough to get excited about. Some of this footage we've seen before, although I noticed several new shots - including one involving Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in a big action scene.

"You wanted to be the hero? Now you gotta pay the price."

Those ominous words are spoken by Electro (Jamie Foxx), and I think those words could describe the theme of the movie - Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) learns that being a superhero comes with a heavy price.

Have a look below, and let me know what you think of the new footage. Don't forget to check back here on Sunday (Feb. 2) for the full trailer.

Disney/Marvel isn't wasting time setting up Phase 3 of its Cinematic Universe. The studio announced today (1-29-14) that Craig Kyle, one of the execs who brought 2011's 'Thor' and 2013's 'Thor: The Dark World' to the screen, will co-write Thor's third solo outing.

As of 1-29-14, Marvel hasn't revealed any details for 'Thor 3' and the opening date is unknown. Even though the opening date is a mystery right now, it's a safe bet to expect 'Thor 3' sometime in 2016.

Last year, Chris Hemsworth and director Alan Taylor talked about what might be in Thor's future.

Art from 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier Prelude' - Marvel Comics
On Tuesday (1-28-14), Marvel announced a new comic book to prepare us for 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', and it looks like a must-read for anyone interested in the upcoming movie. The 67 page tale helps explain what Cap was doing in the period between the events of 2012's 'The Avengers' and his latest exploits in the new movie, opening April 4. The digital comic is available for purchase now.

From the press release -

"Written by Peter David, with layouts by Daniel Govar and art by Rock-He Kim, the CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER PRELUDE Infinite Comic—available now—bridges a divide in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Editors Bill Rosemann and Emily Show worked closely with Marvel Studios to highlight an especially stormy period just prior to the events of April’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” film. Rosemann then tapped David, who previously adapted “Captain America: The First Avenger” as a comic, to headline this latest project."

Check out the gallery below and let me know what you think. Thanks to Empire for the embed.

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' opens on May 23.

Rumor: 'Batman Vs. Superman' Production Is NOT Delayed

Fan-Made Image
Here's the latest from the 'Batman Vs. Superman' rumor mill - Although the opening date was pushed back ten months, Warner Bros. still plans to shoot the 'Man of Steel' sequel in 2014. Deadline reported on Friday (1-24-14) that 'BVS' is moving forward and "...the main players have been summoned to start work right away." It seems Ben Affleck has changed his directing schedule for this spring, and (according to Deadline) that change is because Affleck will be making 'BVS'.

When WB announced a few days ago that 'BVS' was now opening in 2016 instead of its original summer 2015 date, I think most people assumed it was because the movie production was behind schedule. However, it could be that WB needed the extra time in order to shoot 'BVS' and 'Justice League' back-to-back.
