According to executive producer Bruno Heller, 'Gotham' will be just fine without Batman. In a 7-20-14 interview at a Television Critics Association event, Heller emphasized the show won't have any superheroes, including The Dark Knight.

In the action/drama premiering Monday, Sept. 22, Ben McKenzie stars as Gotham City Police Detective Jim Gordon, and David Mazouz plays 12 year-old Bruce Wayne.

"If there is a superhero in the show, it is Gotham. That's a larger than life character that's a central part of the show. To me, heroes are more interesting than superheroes because the difference is superheroes do the impossible and drama is really about the physically possible. This is about people and people trying to overcome real problems versus trying to learn how to fly." - Bruno Heller
