Funny Video: Jason Schwartzmann Auditions For 'Thor'

via Buzzfeed
Let's kick off New Year's week with some wackiness from Conan O'Brien's series of 'Lost Audition Tapes' - this time with indie favorite Jason Schwartzmann trying out for 2011's 'Thor'. (Note: After posting this I realized Jason spells his last name with only one "n" - I wrote what Team Coco had, and they got it wrong.)

Favorite line:

"Do you think I'll have to take off my shirt for it, for real?"

Spidey Roundup: 3 Things About 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Hobgoblin, Shocker, Marvel Comics
Hobgoblin - Shocker - Marvel Comics
It's time once again to collect a few stories from around the internetz that deal with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (the cinematic version, that is).

Spidey's Co-Creator - Stan Lee - Turns 91

Lee created the angst-ridden Wall-Crawler in 1962, along with artist Steve Ditko, and changed the comic book world forever. On Saturday, Dec. 28, Stan The Man celebrated birthday 91 by garnering his one millionth Twitter follower.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Drops Hints About Two More Villains

The viral site - The Daily Bugle - posted an article by (fictitious) reporter Ned Leeds - who becomes the villain Hobgoblin in the comics. The article mentions a crime committed by one Herman Schultz AKA Shocker. Does this mean Hobgoblin and Shocker will be in 'TASM2'? No, but it does mean Sony and director Marc Webb are planting seeds for future Spidey films. I reblogged the article on my Tumblr.

Sony has a special treat for all of us waiting for 'TASM2' to open on May 2, 2014. On New Year's Eve director Marc Webb and Spidey himself will reveal a new clip from the movie. The only problem is - I'm unable to find out which network is carrying this Spidey promotion. If you know, drop me a line. Check out the deets below, via

Empire Magazine - Feb. 2014 Issue
The popular UK movie mag - Empire - is kicking off its 25th birthday year with a special issue on 25 movies to watch in 2014. The issue goes on sale December 31 and features none other than Marvel's First Avenger - Steve Rogers AKA Captain America.

The image above is the main cover, which shows Chris Evans as Cap, in his new 'stealth' uniform. That would be enough badassery for a normal day, but wait, there's more! Empire also revealed the special collector's edition cover below. In this alternate version, alongside Cap is his former partner James 'Bucky' Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.

Empire also announced a special reduced price on the digital version of this issue - from now til Jan. 6, you can buy it for just 99 cents on iTunes and Google Play.

If you're not familiar with the Winter Soldier comic book storyline by Ed Brubaker, the Wikipedia entry will get you up to speed.

Wonder Woman - by Stanley Lau
Hope you guys had a great Christmas and got all the DVDs/Blu-rays you wanted! Now it's time to put down the eggnog and see what happened while everybody was busy fa-la-laing.

Here's a quick recap of the noteworthy stories for the week ending 12-28-13.

  • Over on my Tumblr, you can read Gal Gadot Talks Wonder Woman Casting - The actress told an Israeli website exactly what she did when she found out director Zack Snyder chose her to play Wonder Woman in 2015's 'Batman Vs. Superman'.

New Year's Eve in Times Square
New Year's Eve in Time's Square
  • Okay, this isn't exactly movie news, but 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is connected to the Marvel movies, so it counts. On Dec. 24, I posted this article about 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' introducing a new character straight from the pages of Marvel Comics - Donnie Gill - AKA the cold-as-ice supervillain Blizzard.
Okay, that's my roundup of the week's interesting tidbits and factoids. Let me know if I neglected to mention something you thought was newsworthy.

Merry Christmas And Happy Holidays!

Marvel Comics
This is just a simple thank you to everybody who visited this blog in 2013 - my sincere appreciation for your support. This was another incredible year for superhero movies, and I can't wait to see what's in store next year. 2014 looks to be every bit as exciting as the year we're wrapping up next week, and I hope you keep stopping by every now and then to share your thoughts.

For now (as my little present on this Christmas Day) check out some vintage comic books that'll put a big goofy grin on your mug.

'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Adds A Supervillain

agents of shield logo
If you're one of the many fans who wished 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' had more characters from Marvel Comics' vast history, you'll be happy about this news.

ABC TV announced the series will soon introduce the character of Donnie Gill - AKA Blizzard. Eighteen year-old Dylan Minnette, who gained some geek cred from his stint on 'Lost', will play the supervillain in Episode 12, titled 'Seeds' (airing Jan. 14).

Here's the official synopsis of Episode 12, via ABC TV -

"Seeds" - Coulson and May uncover startling information about Skye’s past, while the team is swept into a storm at SHIELD Academy. On "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Tuesday, January 14 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Tlelevision Network.

Now, if you're up on your Iron Man comics history, you''ll recognize Blizzard as one of ol' Shell Head's foes from way back. In case you're not up to speed, Blizzard is a supervillain with the power to instantly freeze stuff - thanks to a high tech, cryogenic suit - courtesy of billionaire/weapons-maker Justin Hammer.

You might recall Sam Rockwell played Justin Hammer in 2010's 'Iron Man 2'. Rockwell has mentioned that he's up for playing the role again anytime Marvel wants, but I don't expect to see Rockwell show up this season. David Conrad played a character in Episode 3, named Ian Quinn, who might be the source of Gill's suit in 'AoS'. Quinn will also appear in Episode 12, so maybe we'll see Gill get his cryo-suit then.

Don't forget - 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' returns from its winter break on January 7 with Episode 11, titled 'The Magical Place'. ABC's teasing this episode as a big reveal regarding Agent Coulson's so called "resurrection" and his stay in "Tahiti". It'll be interesting to see just how much we learn about that mystery.

Check out a preview of Episode 11 below.

How do ya like this 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' news? Should Marvel introduce more supervillains into the series?
