Is This What a Wonder Woman Movie Should Look Like?

Wonder Woman fans - sound off!

Latino Review posted this video from director Jesse V. Johnson showing his DIY superhero movie trailer. The clip is for what he calls (for legal reasons) a "female superhero fan film", but of course it's starring everyone's favorite Amazonian Warrior Princess. Now, keep in mind - there are no plans to actually make this as a feature film. This is what's known as a "proof of concept" reel - something that Johnson could show movie execs as evidence of what he could do if given the chance.

The trailer features Nina Bergman as Wonder Woman, and veteran actor Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski) as the Nazi officer. For more info, check out Latino Review.

What's your take?

So whaddya think of Johnson's vision for a Wonder Woman movie? Me? I thought it was a pretty cool concept, even though I'm not crazy about the World War II setting. However, I loved how the setting changes to the present day at the end of the clip and Wonder Woman hasn't aged. That was a brilliant touch.

If you have a minute, just answer this question in the comments - Would you be interested in seeing more of this flick, or is it a big "meh"?

Marvel ramped up the Iron Man 3 promotion machine in the last couple of weeks and released a new set of character posters. I figured what better time to collect them all in one handy post and start the countdown to opening day - May 3.

Of course, you guys outside the USA will get an early look at Tony and company as the international opening day is on (or around) April 24.

Take a look at the coolness and let me know what you think. Click the images to enlarge.

X-Men Days of Future Past - News You Might've Missed

x-men days of future past

Ever have one of those days when you can't come up with a clever intro for your post about X-Men movie news? Okay, maybe that doesn't happen to you. Anyway, I really wanted to introduce this news from around the internets with a brilliant witticism, but I got nothin'. But hey, you came here for the news, so let's just get to it.

What's up with X-Men: Days of Future Past?

Director Bryan Singer is promoting his current movie Jack the Giant Slayer, but he's also talking about DOFP. In a recent interview, Singer mentioned how the movie is going to be "quite epic" and how "we're going to see things we haven't seen in other X-Men films." He also mentioned being able to "correct a few things", which I assume refers to the less-than-stellar X-Men: The Last Stand. DOFP is sounding more interesting every day. For more, check out the interview below.

Singer also welcomed Peter Dinklage to the cast of DOFP last week, and fans speculated that he'd be playing Wolverine's fellow Canadian superhero Puck. Singer seemed to shoot down that rumor in an interview with IGN. In the same interview, Singer talked a bit more about Dinklage's character -
“He’s not going to be a CGI character. He’ll be himself. Not that he’ll be playing Peter Dinklage, he’ll be playing this character. It’s not a shy character. He’s just such a phenomenal actor; I’m a huge fan of Peter’s and Game of Thrones. He was my first choice and I was really happy [about the casting]. It’s so funny to talk to him because he does that impeccable accent [on Game of Thrones] and then you talk to him and he’s this guy from New Jersey.” - via IGN

Casting News

To sum it up, the cast is huge, and many of the stars from the first trilogy are returning for DOFP. Since I'm lazy, and since IGN can do a much better job of explaining the cast than I can, just watch the 60 second clip below.

As I write this, the rest of the cast is being filled out for DOFP, and Singer told IGN that he's negotiating with another actor, as well as some "younger" cast members. I wouldn't be surprised if we get the final cast additions within the next week. We already know that DOFP spans two timelines - 1973 and the present - so who these other characters could be is anyone's guess.

Finally, to whet fans' appetite for this latest installment in the X-Universe, Singer Tweeted the pics below. One shows Professor X's wheelchairs from the original X-trilogy and the other seems to show a movie set in the early stages of construction - no doubt, it's DOFP. Not the most exciting pics, I admit, but they show how close this flick is to kicking off production.

What's your take?

Have any other DOFP info or want to sound off on what Singer said in these interviews? Drop me a line in the comments or Tweet me.

Artist Creates Perfect Pixar Versions of Superheroes

phil postma,iron man,pixar,art

Phil Postma was tired of seeing half-assed amateur attempts at mashing up superheroes with Pixar-style art, so he decided to do it himself. As you can see, the results are amazingly spot on.

I have no idea what Phil's background is, but this looks like the work of an experienced graphic artist. He even has each image in the form of a trading card! What's most impressive to me is the level of detail on the costumes - right down to the light reflecting off Tony Stark's armor. If you wanna see more, head over to Phil's blog - Minion Factory - where he has a gallery of 50 Pixar-style heroes and villains, including both Marvel and DC characters.

5 Directors You Can Follow on Twitter

Behind-the-Scenes Tweets

As I mentioned before, I like getting on-the-set updates from Marc Webb, director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Webb Tweets at least a couple of times a day, usually with a photo, and it's cool to get  access to that back stage stuff. After thinking about other directors I keep tabs on, I put this post together to give you a quick way to follow them.

Of course, the reason I'm following these particular directors is because they're all helming superhero movies. By the way, I couldn't find Twitter accounts for Shane Black (Iron Man 3) and Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World).

Twitter Tips

If you're new to Twitter, here's how to set up a list.

  1. On your Twitter homepage, click "Lists" on the left sidebar.
  2. Click "Create List".
  3. Make a list just for the directors you want to follow.
  4. Once you've assigned all the directors to your new list, click on the drop down box next to their name. (See red arrow in image below.)
  5. Optional - Click "Turn on mobile notifications." Now every time one of the directors Tweets something from the set you'll get a text message. (Note - You must be following someone to get notifications.)

Here's the latest Tweet from each director (as of Feb. 17, 2013).

James Mangold is wrapping up production on The Wolverine.
Bryan Singer will soon begin filming X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Zack Snyder has finished directing Man of Steel, which opens June 14.
Marc Webb began filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in early February 2013.

Look Who's Joining the Cast of X-Men:Days of Future Past

The new X-Men movie just got even more interesting!

Bryan Singer took to Twitter once again to announce a new cast member of X-Men: Days of Future Past. This time it's a most surprising addition - none other than Peter Dinklage! While he's appeared in over fifty movies, the 44 year old American actor might be best known for his Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in HBO's Game of Thrones.

Peter Dinklage - source: Wikipedia

Who will he play?

No word yet on who Dinklage will play in "Days". Who do you think it'll be? Is there a character from the comic book that he's suited for, or do you think the screenwriters have created a new character with Dinklage in mind?

Dinklage joins an already star-studded cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellan.

Check out Singer's Tweet about the casting, and then enjoy a "best of" reel featuring Dinklage in HBO's Game of Thrones.

Spoilers Ahead!

Who needs on-set spies to give you spoilers about upcoming movies when the toy companies do such a great job?

Each February, merchandise based on the upcoming superhero movies is showcased at the New York Toy Fair, and it's always loaded with spoilers. The 2013 edition of the Toy Fair kicked off on Feb. 9, and while yours truly couldn't make it in person, I've rounded up some highlights.

Of course, at events like the Toy Fair you don't learn specific plot details, but the toys often show costumes, vehicles, and other props that haven't been shown before in trailers.

The lucky people who attended the 2013 New York Toy Fair got an up-close look at action figures and other cool stuff that's based on -

  • Iron Man 3 - opening May 3
  • Man of Steel - opening June 14
  • Thor: The Dark World - opening November 8
  • Note: The Wolverine opens on June 26, but as far as I know there were no toys based on the movie at the 2013 New York Toy Fair.

Check out the pics below for a sample of what was on display in New York and hit the links for more deets.

Does this Iron Man 3 toy show a major spoiler from the movie? This is the "Starboost Armor", which Hasbro describes this way -
"This suit incorporates a powerful booster pack that allows Iron Man to achieve orbit in a matter of minutes."
Does Tony go into space in Iron Man 3? Hmm...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Behind-the-Scenes Tweets from the Director

the amazing spider-man 2, fan-made image, capes on film

Marc Webb, You Tease

When it comes to generating buzz for upcoming movies, Twitter is fast becoming the go-to platform for some directors.

Case in point - Marc Webb, the director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Webb has been Tweeting a behind-the-scenes pic from the set of TASM2 every day since filming started on the movie February 5.

Granted, these pics aren't earth-shattering, but they give us a glimpse into a world that until recently was off limits. I'm sure as the TASM2 filming progresses, the pics will become much more interesting. I embedded a few of Webb's Tweets below, which show the pics from the first five days of filming. Webb didn't post a pic on Saturday, Feb. 9, so I'm assuming the blizzard that hit New York City might be the reason.

Is the Green Goblin in TASM2?

The pic from Day 3 is especially interesting because it shows a morgue locker with the number "14" on it and the hashtag #happybirthday. As an article on Splashpage explained, some people think this is a hint that we'll see The Green Goblin in TASM2.

The Goblin made his first appearance in the comic book The Amazing Spider-Man, in issue number 14. Also - Feb. 6 was actor Dane DeHaan's birthday, and DeHaan plays Norman's son, Harry, in the movie. Gotta admit, those are pretty strong clues that we'll see ol' Gobby harassing poor Pete once again.

More Spidey News

By the way, if you missed it, Columbia Pictures issued a press release last week that announced the start of filming of TASM2, and it also mentioned a couple of new cast members.

What's Your Take?

Looking forward to your thoughts on TASM2 as it gets deeper into production and more teasers are released!

Rumor Patrol - Is the Justice League Movie in Trouble...AGAIN?

Justice League by *JPRart on deviantART

Sheesh! I'm really starting to feel for Warner Bros. It seems like they just can not get their long-awaited Justice League movie off the ground. Back in 2008, Warner Bros. almost started work on a JL movie that was to be directed by George Miller (Road Warrior), but for various reasons it was scrapped. Since then, the studio has seen rival Marvel Studios have fantastic success with The Avengers. The studio is obviously eager to get its own super-team franchise rolling, but we might have to wait a bit longer to see it.

It looked like all systems were go for a summer 2015 release for Justice League, but according to a new rumor that plan might be in jeopardy. The rumor in question made the rounds today, and it alleges the studio is putting the brakes on the movie yet again.

According to BadAss Digest, their sources say the screenplay sucks and Warner can't find a director willing to take on the movie.

Here's what Devin Faraci had to say about his insider information -
"I've now heard from multiple sources that the Will Beall script for Justice League has been scrapped. The story from each source is the same: it's terrible. Some sources seem to think the whole movie is going to fall apart and never happen, while some believe that Warner Bros will keep moving forward, unwilling to lose the superhero arms race."
Whaddya think of this rumor? Do you think Warner Bros. has enough time to make a quality movie and make their announced summer 2015 opening date?

The success or failure of Justice League has huge implications for the entire DC Comics movie universe, so sound off.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Begins Filming

amazing spider-man movie, capes on film, amazing spider-man 2

Wow what a week for superhero news! On Sunday, we saw the new Iron Man 3 trailer, and now Columbia Pictures has announced the start of production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2! In a press release issued on February 5, the studio said the film has begun shooting in New York City.

The studio also announced two additions to the cast - Colm Feore and Paul Giamatti. We already know that Giamatti will play the villain Rhino, but no word yet on who Feore will play. FYI - Feore already has some superhero movie cred - he played the Frost Giant King Laufey in 2011's Thor.  Feore is 54 years old, so he'd be the perfect age for Norman Osborn, hmm... interesting.

Check out the official announcement below via The Amazing Spider-Man Facebook page.

New York, February 5, 2013 – Columbia Pictures announced today that filming has begun on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2 in New York.  The film is the first in the history of the franchise that will be filmed entirely in New York City and New York State.

The sequel to last year’s critical and box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.  Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep.  Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers.

The film’s key behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Dan Mindel, production designer Mark Friedberg, editors Pietro Scalia and Elliot Graham, and costume designer Deborah L. Scott.

The latest chapter in the Spider-Man story is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014.

What's Your Take?

How do you like the cast that director Marc Webb assembled for the sequel? We'll have a new Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), as well as a new Mary Jane Watson (Shailene Woodley). Jamie Foxx will play the villain Electro, but is Foxx the main villain? I have a feeling there's an as-yet-unnamed criminal mastermind who is actually Spidey's real nemesis.

Sorting out the Hulk Movie Rumors

Hulk,the avengers,movie,capes on film

I don't usually post stuff about rumors circulating on the internets, but every now and then one pops up that's too big to ignore. Just in case you've been comatose for the last few days, a major rumor surfaced involving Phases 2 and 3 of Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

On February 3, Latino Review claimed to have a source within Marvel Studios who knows what Marvel is planning many years in the future. LR has a pretty good track record when it comes to predicting Marvel's next move, so I think there could be some truth to this one.

If true, this is a huge spoiler - so turn back now if you'd rather be surprised.

Okay, still with me? Cool.

Since we have a long time to discuss this rumor (like, maybe three years), I won't go into a lot of detail. I just want to give you the basic outline and then get your take.

Marvel's Master Plan (According to Latino Review)

  • At the conclusion of The Avengers 2, Hulk will become so uncontrollable that the heroes will devise a plan to send him into outer space. Hulk lands on another planet where he fights a bunch of weird monsters and aliens.
  • Hulk will then star in a solo movie (I'm guessing this would be in 2017). The movie will be based on the ultra-popular comic book series Planet Hulk.
  • Phase 3 of Marvels' grand movie strategy will then involve Hulk returning to Earth to seek revenge on the heroes who exiled him. This revenge movie will form the basis of The Avengers 3, which will again be based on a comic book series - World War Hulk
Like I said, this is the condensed version of the rumor. El Mayimbe does a great job of connecting all the dots of Marvel's master plan on his blog.

My Thoughts on the Rumor

First of all, I'm giving LR the benefit of the doubt, and if he says he has a source then so be it. However, that doesn't mean everything his source heard or saw is written in stone. Screenplays go through several revisions before a movie hits the screen, so chances are the final product will look very different from what LR is reporting. I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel has several variations of the same plot - with different writers working on each screenplay. Who knows if the version that LR learned about is the one Marvel will go with?

Having said that, I think a scenario in which Hulk is the key player makes perfect sense. He stole the show in The Avengers and I think Marvel knows they have a fan favorite in the Jade Giant. Also - the outer space theme makes sense because Marvel has already announced a sci-fi-ish movie - Guardians of the Galaxy - will be in Phase 2. However, I think the details that LR gives in his outline involving how Hulk winds up in outer space are a little dodgy. I'm betting that Marvel is still developing the finer points of their overall scheme, so I'm skeptical about some of what LR  reports.

What's Your Take?

Alright, you know the basics of the rumor and hopefully you checked out the full report on Latino Review. What's your take on this massive rumor?

Can you see any of this actually happening or do you think LR is way off base?

Check out the new trailer for Marvel's Iron Man 3, which debuted during the Big Game on American TV tonight (Feb. 3)! Speculation about the plot of Iron Man 3 has been non-stop since Marvel dropped the first trailer back in October of last year, and now we have a bit more info to chew on. We already know that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is tested like never before, and the mid-air rescue scene drives that point home.

As in the first trailer, we only get a glimpse of the villain, The Manadrin (Ben Kingsley). However, Marvel is making certain we know he's out to destroy Stark, as he tells the hero - "You'll never see me comin'."

We also get a quick look at War Machine's American flag-inspired armor. Don Cheadle is back in the role of James "Rhodey" Rhodes, the Air Force colonel inside the War Machine suit.

The video above is the 30 second TV commercial, and below you can watch the extended 90 second trailer that debuted on the Iron Man Facebook page.
