Paul Giamatti Talks Playing 'The Rhino' In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

How 'bout a little Spidey News? It's been quiet on the WallCrawler front since 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' wrapped filming, but I think that's about to change. Now that the movie's in post-production, we can expect the stars to begin chatting up the flick with the press. Before you know it, TASM2's opening day of May 2, 2014 will be here, so you can bet Sony will want to keep the movie on the fans' radar.

One of the first members of the cast to talk about their experience on the film is Paul Giamatti, who plays Russian gangster Aleksei Sytsevich -aka The Rhino. To hear Giamatti tell it, he had a blast playing the crazy bad guy whose main attribute is smashing into stuff.

While at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, Liz Braun of The Toronto Sun caught up with the actor and got a few tidbits of info. It was basically one of those red carpet interviews, so it was brief, however Giamatti seemed happy to talk about his character and what it was like playing him.

About the super-villain he plays in TASM2, Giamatti told The Toronto Sun -

"In the comic books of old, he had this suit on that made him look like a rhinoceros, and it made him super strong. If there was a bank vault he would just run right through it. Butt through it with his head. And he was not very smart.

And I have a particular kind of suit, but I don't think I'm supposed to talk about it. He's a Russian mobster. Russians are always good villains. I have an ability to just destroy things."

Giamatti went on to say that he was "over-the-top hammy" in the role, so it sounds like The Rhino will be played more for laughs than a serious threat. We already know that Electro (played by Jamie Foxx) will be the main villain, so I'm guessing Rhino will only be on screen for a few minutes. Giamatti's been one of my favorite actors for years, so I was thrilled when he got the TASM2 gig. I can't wait to see him go toe-to-toe with Andrew Garfield's Spidey.

What your take? Will Giamatti rock as Rhino or should they have cast someone else?
