"Heroes. There is no such thing."
- so says the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), in the first full trailer for Iron Man 3. The chilling, ominous voice of the Mandarin is a key part of our introduction to the post-Avengers world of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Apparently, Tony has made some enemies after saving New York and becoming one of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" because at one point he says to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) -
"Honestly, there's a hundred people who wanna kill me. I hope I can protect the one thing I can't live without."
We see a bunch of interesting things in this trailer - the complete destruction of Tony's Malibu home by the Mandarin's helicopters, War Machine decked out in new red, white and blue armor, an airliner being blown up, and Pepper being rescued by Iron Man, and much more.
To me, this trailer clearly shows that Marvel isn't afraid to take its Cinematic Universe down some fascinating, psychological twists and turns. Everything isn't all sunshine and roses when Tony accepts the role of being a superhero. Marvel and director, Shane Black, explore the dangerous consequences that would result from that decision. I'm sure we'll be learning more about these new dangers that Tony faces as Marvel ramps up the promotion of Iron Man 3 as it nears its May 3, 2013 opening date.
