'The Amazing Spider-Man' Director Gives Us Behind-the-Camera Access

Sony Pictures
Sonymakedotbelieve is a YouTube channel from Sony Pictures that gives us behind-the-scenes access to the studio's films, and this week the new Spidey movie is in the spotlight. Marc Webb, director of The Amazing Spider-Man, talks about some of the most important things he had to consider while filming this huge, complicated production. After watching this clip, it's clear that Webb knew exactly how he wanted to present his version of Spider-Man. He also seems remarkably calm and relaxed for someone responsible for a movie with a $258 million budget and legions of fans looking over his shoulder.

"The best part has been the spirit of collaboration with those artists who are trying to create something interesting and beautiful. There is an intuitive, instinctual thing that happens that doesn't feel corporate and doesn't feel procedural. You've gotta be able to push forward and allow for moments of inspiration along the way. If you can maximize and capitalize on those moments, you're in a much better position to create a piece of art that feels exciting and new and thrilling." -Marc Webb

"The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero."
