Documentary: "Dig Comics'

The article below is from the LA Times, and is about the documentary, Dig Comics, and it explores a topic that I've been fascinated by recently. Namely, while comic-inspired films continue to set records, with no signs of slowing down, the comic book industry struggles. The article, and the film itself, raises some interesting questions. Mainly, why do millions of people love the movies, but refuse to purchase the books?

I had never heard of the film before reading this article, but I can't wait to see it.

Documentary reminds fans to 'Dig Comics,' not just superhero movies

As usual, it all comes down to the general public's perception of comics being "kids' stuff". You can talk until you're blue in the face about Robert Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Joe Sacco, the Hernandez Bros. et al, but most people hear the word "comics" and think only of superheroes. And they're for kids, right?
It also seems that most people can appreciate art ( pictures ) or literature ( words ) as two separate things, but if you combine them ( comics ), the reaction is very different. It's certainly strange...
I'm sure it would take cleverer minds than mine to figure it all out :-)
